Greenpeace have highlighted their concerns at the amount of rubbish that ends up in our oceans. In response to this concern, they conducted a poll showing that 78% of respondents in Scotland support the introduction of a deposit return system. While there is resistance from Coca-cola, the people of Scotland can show their support by signing this petition.

The Daily Mail have highlighted the estimation that in the United Kingdom, 15 million bottles a day are thrown away after only one use. They support the introduction of a deposit return system, and highlight continuing public support from a wide variety of people, including HRH The Prince of Wales.

Sky News have this week launched a campaign that aims to inspire and encourage people to act now on the issue of marine litter. Their Ocean Rescue campaign began with the Plastic Tide documentary, that highlights the problem. They go on to show their support for deposit return systems and highlight celebrities such as Richard Branson and HRH, The Prince of Wales who support their introduction in the United Kingdom.

This short video gives a great explanation of how deposit return systems work.

The campaign has already drawn widespread interest and highlighted active opposition to the introduction of a deposit return system from Coca-cola.

Here he explains how all of his questions were answered, and he left Oslo with the conclusion that “deposit return systems definitely work, and there is really no reason not to have them”.
