In September 2016 the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee agreed to establish a sub group to consider the issue of deposit return systems in Scotland with a view to considering how the Committee might wish to incorporate work on this topic into its wider work programme.

The sub group engaged informally with a range of relevant stakeholders over the course of six months.

The final report from the sub group recommends that deposit return systems are an important part of discussions around wider waste issues and solutions.
